Wedding Budget

Ideas for Your Wedding Budget

  1. Check out registries, there are many that give you big discounts and free stuff.
  2. Book your venue at least a year in advance and ask if they you can pay it out monthly until the wedding. Decide on your honeymoon destination and book it early to get the best rates. It is a little less expensive if you do all the research and book it, but so much easier to find a travel agent to do the leg work and search out bargains.
  3. Look at Air B&B’s, VRBO and make sure it is ok with the owners to have an event there. This can save you money on hotels if family comes from out of town.
  4. You can make your own bouquet, corsages and boutonnieres so much cheaper than getting them at the florist. Costco and Sam’s Club have pre-arranged wedding flower packages you can get and they offer free delivery. If you are not a member of these you can still get your flowers there, but will have a non-member fee of about 10%. You can go with all silk flowers, (allergy free) and save even more when you buy at Old Tyme Pottery or Hobby Lobby and make your own.
  5. Hair and Make-up, make sure the person doing your hair and makeup have worked with you at least once, so there are no surprises. Give them adequate notice, so you are on their calendar. Ask about discounts especially if they are doing bridesmaids, flower girls and Mom’s.
  6. Gifts for the bridal party. Personalized gifts mean so much to them, www.personalcreations.com and www.shutterfly.com have some really cute, inexpensive gifts that will they will keep for years as a memory of that special day.
  7. When you book your honeymoon, forget using the word ”honeymoon”, it will save you $$$$. You can expect the price to be higher every time you mention the word “wedding or honeymoon” when booking. It is considered high drama and high risk for their service staff.
  8. Apply for a credit card that offers rewards points. Check with airlines for their rewards programs and see if there are points you haven’t used with your credit card that are available when booking your flight. Use that card for your purchases before the wedding. This makes it easier for you to increase those points, it all adds up and you can get a Companion Pass for your honeymoon with all those points.
  9. Look on your social media page for Wedding Swaps, sell or Trade sites, this can save you $$$ on decorations.
  10. Get married in the Off Season, many venues offer discounted prices for wedding done before Peak season. Find a venue that does not require you to use their vendors.
  11. Have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres instead of a dinner, this can save you as much as $1000 at least.
  12. Cake vs Cupcake, people love cupcakes and it will save you $$$, have the bakery do a small cake you and your groom and then do cupcakes for the guests, this can cut the cost in half!
  13. Alcohol, pay for the first hour of beverages and then have the DJ announce the Cash Bar time, or just serve beer and wine. Save the extra money for your honeymoon.
  14. When people offer to help, let them. Don’t be afraid to take someone up on their offer of services in exchange for a gift.
  15. Plan on hitting Big Sales, Black Friday sales, buy those bridesmaids dresses on the clearance racks during holiday sales. Watch for wedding dress sales too. Make sure you go in early and try on your favorites before the sales.
  16. Buy and sell your décor and wedding apparel after the wedding. Go to online resale sites and post pictures, it will sell fast, and give you back some of the money you spent.
  17. Ask yourself “Do I really need it”, a Save the Date card can be the invitation as well and can be made on the computer and printed at www.vistaprint.com, Office Max, Office Depot, and many other sites.
