Pastor Robert Kaps with Heart of God Fellowship Church purchased the First Baptist Church of Odessa in February 2008. We started renovations on the building to preserve its foundation and structure, and held church services there for several years. Later, we decided to convert the administration building into a shelter for battered women and rehab services. After the church closed and the shelter outgrew the space, we decided to convert the church into an event venue that could be utilized by the community. We started renovations again, took out the classrooms below the chapel and built a ballroom with a dance floor, and upgraded the restrooms and kitchen. There is a small event room on the main floor, with bride and groom dressing rooms and a beautiful chapel. We want the community to be able to utilize this facility for weddings, parties, family reunions, meetings, celebration of life ceremonies, or conferences. We have an open vendor policy, are non-denominational, have a great dance floor, beautiful foyer, and reasonable rates. We have plans to do more renovations in the future, in the backyard and in the old administration building. This is a beautiful, historic building that we want preserved for future generations to use. We’ve had 3 generations of families get married in the chapel and we want to continue that tradition.
To maintain this beautiful, historic chapel and event center, while offering it to the public for family events. The funds from this center go to building maintenance and to our church charities.
